Deze bomen met zijn lichte bast vond ik een opvallende verschijning.
Ze komen in Ierland redelijk algemeen voor, maar in Nederland ken ik ze niet in deze verschijningsvorm.
I don't know this tree in the Netherlands, but I regularly saw them in Ireland.

Een mooi uitzicht vanaf een van de heuvels in het zuidelijke deel van de Wicklow mountains.
Op de helling vooraan zie je de aangeplante bossen, in het dal de weilanden.
In heel Co. Wicklow heb ik geen enkele akker kunnen vinden, de grond wordt gebruikt voor hout, vlees en wol.

In the front you see the planted forests. In the valey the medows.
In all Co. Wicklow I couldn't find any fields with wheat or vegetables.
The main use of the grounds is for wood, meat and wool.

Het monument op de voorgrond is ter ere van een persoon, die veel pionierswerk heeft gedaan op het gebied van wandelen in Ierland.
De nevel in de verte is een regenwolk die langstrekt met achterlating van het nodige vocht.

In front there is a stone in honor of a person who has done a lot for the pioneers work of hiking in Ireland.

Die Ieren hebben zo'n mooi land om trots op te zijn, alleen zijn niet alle inwoners daar zo van doordrongen.
In dit plaatje heb ik een aardige samenvatting weten te vangen van de wandeling door de Wicklow mountains.
Mooie groene hevels en valleien aan de ene kant, kaal gevreten hellingen daartussen.
Een gevariëerd landschap met mooie wandelwegen daar doorheen.
Maar daartussen toch wel erg vaak zulke verstorende factoren.
Als je over een brugleuning kijkt, of een blik werpt achter sommige muurtjes, kom je ook heel wat dingen tegen die bij het grof vuil thuis horen.
Ireland is such a beautifull country, but not every inhabitant is so eager to keep it that tidy.
This picture is a kind of summary of the Wicklow way.
A varied landscape with hiking tracks leading you through it.
It is dominated by the the green fields and woods along the slopes and the green fields in the valies.
Other slopen ore more grey bacause of the grazing of the sheep.
In between them there are realy interfering objects, belonging to the rubbish-dump.
This car is just one of them.
When you look over the railing of most bridges you quickly walk on to not destroy your happy feeling of hiking in such beautifull country.

Deze bergtoppen liggen in het noorden van de Wicklow moutains.
Hoewel ze hier niet zo hoog uit zien, zit je hier toch op meer dan 600 m hoogte.
Vooraan zie je de boardwalk, die aangelegd is om goed door het veen heen te komen.
De modder vooraan is beschadigd veen.
Om verdere beschadiging en verbreding van het pad zo veel mogelijk tegen te gaan zijn deze boardwalks aangelegd.
Ze zijn gemaakt van afgedankte spoorbielsen, dus ze moeten wel een tijdje mee kunnen, ondanks de blootstelling aan de elementen.
Om te voorkomen dat je uitgleidt op het (bijna altijd) natte hout is er dubbeltjesgaas op gespijkerd.

They are made of retired railway sleepers, which should be able to stand the element for some years.
To prevent the danger of the slippery surface of the wood they are covered with a fine wire net.
